Day 1:
Arrive Amman and transfer to your hotel.
Overnight Amman.
Day 2: After breakfast, visit
Amman
visiting the Roman theater, the Citadel, the Archeology and Folklore Museums,
old and modern Amman, then drive to visit the Roman city of
Jerash,
the best-preserved city of Roman times, to visit its theaters, temples,
churches and colonnaded streets.
Overnight Amman.
Day 3: A most important and interesting day as we head towards
the Jordan River and to Bethany beyond the Jordan. We visit Tel Al Kharrar,
where Joshua, Elijah and Elisha crossed over the Jordan River. For those fit
and able to make the 40-minute walk, the ruins of a Byzantine monastery with a
church lie in wait; this is believed to be the church commemorating John the
Baptist. Continue to Lot’s Cave, where Lot and his daughters took refuge
after the destruction of Sodom, a 6th-century ruin of a Byzantine complex
covered with mosaics.
Overnight Amman.
Day 4: Drive southwards along the Kings’ Way to Petra, visiting
Madaba
with its oldest of the Holy Land and its Mosaic School,
Mount Nebo,
believed to be the burial site of Moses, overlooking the Dead Sea and the
Jordan Valley; then drive to Makawir. Continue afterwards through the
magnificent scenery of Wadi Mujib to Kerak
to visit the Crusader Castle. Arrive Petra and overnight in Petra.
Day 5: A full day to visit the many sites of
Petra,
a city that was carved into the rose-red Sharah Mountains by the Nabateans and
was lost to Civilization until it was rediscovered by the Swiss explorer
Burkhardt. Walk through the Siq, a narrow and winding fissure between the
cliffs, to reach the Treasury, the Roman Theater, the Courts, Qasr Bint
Pharaoun, Temple of the Winged Lion and other monuments.
Overnight in Petra.
Day 6: Visit Wadi Rum Desert and its
awesome moon-like landscape. Travel south to Aqaba city.
Enjoy a relaxing afternoon and overnight in Aqaba.
Day 7: Transfer to Aqaba Airport.
