HERMITAGE MUSEUM

One of the world’s greatest art galleries set in the magnificent Winter Palace built by Catherine the Great. The museum is vast; along with additional buildings it houses collections of art by such masters as Rembrandt, Rubens and Picasso, along with collections from the Impressionists and Post-Impressionists.

PETRODVORETS (PETERHOF)

The imperial summer palace built at the beginning of the 18th century is on the Gulf of Finland, 20 miles from St. Petersburg. Petrodvorets is a combination of several palaces, containing furniture, paintings and applied art items that belonged to different generations of Russian Czars. In front of the Big Palace is a beautiful fountain and its many tiers and ornamental golden statues offer an amazing sight.

PUSHKIN
(Tsarskoye Selo – Czar’s village)

Puskin’s beautiful palaces and parks were created under Empresses Elizabeth and Catherine the Great between 1744-1796. The centerpiece is the vast Baroque Catherine’s Palace, designed by Rastrelli and named after Elizabeth’s mother, the second wife of Peter the Great. With its golden spires and luxurious interiors it is perhaps the grandest of all the 18th century baroque-style palaces.

PAVLOVSK

A short drive from Pushkin is this park of woodland, rivers, lakes, little valleys, avenues, classical statues and temples which are some of the most exquisite in Russia. The Great Palace is a classical contrast to the baroque Catherine Palace in Pushkin. Charles Cameron designed it between 1781-1786 on Catherine the Great’s orders, for her son, the future Paul I.
